The Rwanda Film Office (RFO), in collaboration with the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and key partners, has launched the 2024 Creative Grants Initiative. This program, aimed at bolstering the nation’s audiovisual and film industry, aligns with Rwanda’s ambition to become a premier continental film destination.
The initiative provides €360,000 in funding, divided into two categories: €100,000 each for two projects in feature or documentary film production, and €80,000 each for two post-production projects. Eligible applicants include Rwandan filmmakers and production companies with advanced projects that showcase cultural relevance, technical quality, and creative potential.
Applications are open until January 11, 2025, with laureates to be announced on February 8, 2025. Selected projects must meet key milestones, including completing production and submitting finalized films by November 15, 2025.
The grants require at least 75% of the funding to be spent locally, fostering job creation and skill development in Rwanda’s creative sector. The program emphasizes intellectual property protection, ensuring that scripts and films are legally registered before submission.
This initiative is supported by the ACP-EU Culture Program and OIF (Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie), reflecting Rwanda’s commitment to fostering global partnerships in the cultural sector.
