A high-level Rwandan delegation, led by Hon. Emmanuel Ugirashebuja, is representing Rwanda at the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly in Glasgow. The delegation includes Inspector General of Police Felix Namuhoranye, Secretary General of the Rwanda Investigation Bureau Jeannot Ruhunga, and Rwanda’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, John Busingye.
This year’s assembly has attracted around 1,000 delegates from 179 countries to discuss key issues shaping the future of global security and law enforcement.
The event’s agenda places a strong focus on Artificial Intelligence and its role in modern policing, global counter-terrorism strategies, and enhancing cross-border collaboration. As AI and advanced technologies increasingly influence security, delegates will explore how law enforcement agencies worldwide can adopt these innovations responsibly. AI applications have the potential to improve response times, support crime prevention, and enable predictive policing, but also raise concerns about privacy, ethics, and data security.
Counter-terrorism strategies are also a focal point, with representatives from different regions sharing approaches to combat terrorism, prevent extremism, and counter the movement of transnational threats. Emphasis will be placed on global cooperation and information-sharing as vital tools in counter-terrorism efforts, especially as terrorist tactics continue to evolve.
Significant leadership decisions are expected to be finalized during the assembly, including the endorsement of Valdecy Urquiza from Brazil as the new INTERPOL Secretary General. Additionally, elections will be held to fill seats on the Executive Committee, with representatives from various continents set to shape INTERPOL’s future strategy and priorities.
Rwanda’s active participation at the General Assembly reflects its commitment to advancing global security and fostering international partnerships. The Rwandan delegation’s presence reflects the nation’s dedication to integrating new technologies, enhancing policing capabilities, and addressing shared security challenges through cooperation.
Rwanda’s growing engagement in such international forums also highlights its role in addressing transnational crime, and its efforts to support INTERPOL’s mission to foster a safer, more interconnected world.
