Rwanda Hosts World Beach Volleyball Challenge Tour

After successfully hosting the first Beach Volleyball World Tour competition in 2019, Rwanda brings again the best Beach Volleyball players together on the shores of Lake Kivu.

Despite the challenges caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, Rwanda has put all
efforts together to host the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach Volley-
ball World Tour Star 2. and the event will run on July 14 to 18.

71 teams from 39 countries in Europe, Asia, the Americas and Africa will compete in the only World level Beach Volleyball tournament to be organised in Sub Saharan Africa.

Gambia’s duo of Sainey Jawo and Babou Jara will be on target after missing the Olympic games ticket in the just concluded Africa Continental Cup.

The scorpions and Rwandan teams will be favourites among African teams without forgetting the Kenyan duo of Ibrahim Odour and James Mwaniki.

Denmark’s Nicolai Hovmann Overgaard will be seeking to clinch the gold after missing it on the final as he and Jacob Stormly were beaten by Japan’s Kensuke Shoji and Masato Kurasaka. Hovmann has now teamed up with Kristoffer Abell who is used to higher tours like 3 and 4 Stars.

In the men category, the total number of teams participating is 35 and 31 in the women’s category.

The qualifications will be staged on July, 14 and the main draw will be held on July, 15 nad 16.

Rwanda will be represented by the famous duo of Patrick Kavalo Akumuntu and Olivier Ntagengwa.

Yves Mutabazi has replaced Venuste Gatsinzi who is the usual partner of Fils Habanzintwari in the men’s category.

The women’s teams are made of Charlotte Nzayisenga and Valantine Munezero, as well as Benitha Mukandayisenga and Claudine Musanabageni.

Fans will not be allowed to attend matches as per Covid-19 prevention measures.

As Rwanda, is leading in fighting angainst COVID-19, the organisers and the Government of Rwanda have decided to stage the competition in a bubble as participants will observe diffrent measures against the pandemic.
