Rwanda, Germany Navigate Migration Challenges and Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Rwanda and Germany are in discussions on migration management and bilateral cooperation at a time of the recent cancellation of Rwanda’s migration agreement with the UK, underscoring the need for innovative solutions to address shifting global dynamics.

President Paul Kagame and Jens Spahn, Deputy Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group and a prominent German official, met for a two-hour session on Tuesday in Kigali.

They delved into various global challenges and explored opportunities to deepen economic cooperation between their nations.

“We had the great honor of exchanging views with Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame for two hours – discussing current global challenges, the migration agreement with the UK, and the good cooperation between Rwanda and Germany,” he said. “We aim to further expand this. Thanks for that privilige, Mr President.”

Kagame’s government says it is commitment to dignified migration management despite the setback with the UK agreement. The government recently said that it’s readiness to explore alternative partnerships and frameworks that prioritize human rights and sustainable solutions still stands, despite the UK’s frustrating move.

Jens Spahn commended Rwanda’s proactive stance on migration issues and expressed Germany’s support for exploring new strategies.

Globally, the complexities of managing migration require adaptive policies that respond to changing global circumstances, and many European countries consider Rwanda a major player with innovative ideas and capacity to handle a great degree of these problems.

Meanwhile, beyond migration, the dialogue between the two officials emphasized expanding collaboration in education, technology transfer, and sustainable development.

President Kagame highlighted Rwanda’s strategic location and economic potential, inviting increased investment and partnership from Germany.

The meeting concluded with both leaders affirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for mutual benefit amidst evolving global challenges.
