Football fans in Russia have drunk so much beer to the extent that supply has completely gone down. The brewing companies have been stretched and can’t satisfy the thirsty fans.
Deliveries are taking nearly 24 hours, which is longer than usual, because the suppliers’ stocks are also running low.
Beer in Russia is the second most popular alcoholic drink after vodka, seen by many as a less harmful alternative. An average Russian person drank about 12.5 liters of pure alcohol.
In just a week since the World Cup started, fans celebrating the tournament are drinking so much that Moscow is running low on beer.
“We just didn’t think they would only want beer,” a waiter at an upscale joint in the city told press. “There are really a lot of people in Moscow … and they are all drinking.”
Before the World Cup, beer sales dipped by nearly a third due to increased regulations on sales and advertising over the past 10 years in Russia.
