RPF Inkotanyi’s Campaign to Continue Without Disrupting National Activities, Says SG Gasamagera

The Secretary-General of the RPF Inkotanyi, Gasamagera Wellars, has affirmed that the campaign activities for their presidential candidate, Paul Kagame, and the parliamentary candidates will not interrupt the country’s ongoing national activities. This announcement was made during a press conference held by the RPF Inkotanyi today.

Gasamagera explained that the campaign would be conducted differently this year to ensure that all national activities continue uninterrupted.

“The difference between this campaign and the usual one is that our candidate used to go to each district, but now we have combined different districts for understandable reasons. We have 21 days for the campaign, but during those days, we also have other national activities that must be carried out,” he said.

He emphasized the party’s commitment to maintaining the country’s progress while campaigning. “As the RPF Inkotanyi, we believe in the principle that campaigning should not stop the life of the country. All necessary activities, providing services to citizens, and all work required to build the country must continue. This is why we decided to combine two or three districts so that our candidate can perform his duties and campaign.”

Gasamagera also addressed the strategy for parliamentary candidates, who will be visiting all 30 districts across Rwanda.

These candidates will be campaigning exclusively for the RPF Inkotanyi, ensuring widespread engagement and support.

The RPF Inkotanyi’s Secretariat had previously informed its members that their campaign activities would not disrupt their professional duties. When asked if this directive might lead to fewer participants or absentees, Gasamagera reassured that participants would not be missing as they are allowed to request leave from their employers.

“They will request leave. The leave will primarily be requested from their leaders. Business people are independent. Those who wish to participate will come, and those who do not will continue their work. The announcement was made to emphasize and support that the country’s life must continue. But this does not mean that our members and supporters will not come. They will use their right to request leave,” he explained.

The campaign activities are set to commence on June 22, 2024, with the RPF Inkotanyi kicking off their campaign at the Busogo site in the Musanze district.

This approach aims to balance the demands of the electoral process with the ongoing developmental and operational needs of the nation, ensuring that the country’s progress remains steady.
