Officials from the Rwanda Investigation Bureau’s (RIB) crime prevention unit have urged residents of Jali Sector in Gasabo District to reject genocide ideology, warning that it destroys national unity and is punishable by law.
Gasabo is one of the districts where cases of genocide ideology are frequently reported, often manifesting in acts such as harming or killing genocide survivors, injuring or killing their livestock, or damaging their property.
Jean Claude Ntirenganya, an official from RIB’s crime prevention unit, emphasized the importance of unity, warning that genocide ideology divides people and ultimately leads to violence and death.
“If not prevented early, genocide ideology causes serious harm to social relations,” he stated.
Ntirenganya also reminded Jali residents to remain vigilant and report any signs of genocide ideology before they escalate into serious threats.
The awareness campaign in Jali was attended by local residents, community leaders, and security officials. It is part of RIB’s broader efforts to prevent genocide ideology and related crimes, as well as combat smuggling, drug abuse, and human trafficking.
The campaign will continue on Tuesday in Rutunga Sector, also in Gasabo District.
