RIB Arrests Two ECOBANK Employees

Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested two ECOBANK employees for allegedly soliciting a bribe from the bank’s customers.

Théogène Niyonshuti and Edward Wasswa were caught red handed with Rwf4.5million from a client who wanted them to assist him evade a property auction by the bank through the government’s e-auction portal.

The bribe was meant to reward the suspects for fixing an new date for the auction as the customer buys time, with probability of servicing the loan.

The two suspects are Ecobank’s debt recovery officers. They were arrested following a tip off.

Their charge sheet it being processed as more investigations continue.
