The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested Kamayirese Innocent, an environmental protection officer in Rutsiro District, on allegations of soliciting bribes from various individuals in exchange for permits to mine sand and stones.
Kamayirese was apprehended following an investigation into the issuance of permits for sand and stone mining in Rutsiro District, which had been ongoing for some time.
He is currently detained at the RIB Gihango Station as his case file is being prepared for submission to the Prosecution.
RIB has expressed its appreciation to citizens who continue to demonstrate a willingness to reject giving bribes and instead report such incidents.
RIB also reminds the public that bribery is a crime that does not expire and warns those who misuse their legally-granted authority for personal gain to cease such actions, as they are punishable by law.
