On August 30, 2024, the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) held its twelfth send-off ceremony at RDF Headquarters in Kimihurura, honoring Generals, Senior Officers, and other ranks who have reached retirement or completed their service contracts.
This event, presided over by Defence Minister Juvenal Marizamunda on behalf of President Paul Kagame, was a heartfelt tribute to those who played pivotal roles in the nation’s liberation and continued development.
Minister Marizamunda praised the retirees for their invaluable contributions from the liberation struggle to Rwanda’s current progress, emphasizing their role as mentors for the younger generation of RDF soldiers.
“Your dedication has shaped our nation,” he said, expressing confidence in their continued service to the country even in retirement.
RDF Chief of Defence Staff Gen MK Mubarakh highlighted the significance of this milestone, noting the retirees’ sacrifices and dedication in defending Rwanda.
He celebrated their legacy of honour and service, which has strengthened the RDF as a respected institution.
Brig Gen John Bagabo, speaking for the retirees, expressed gratitude to President Kagame for his leadership and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the RDF in future deployments.
The ceremony also recognized the retirees with certificates of service, symbolizing the nation’s deep appreciation for their enduring dedication.
Similarly, in September 2023, the RDF honored several retiring Generals and Senior Officers in a similar ceremony. General (Rtd) James Kabarebe, speaking on behalf of those retirees, acknowledged the RDF’s continued strength and progress under President Kagame’s visionary leadership.
These ceremonies, rich in tradition, serve as poignant reminders of the sacrifices and dedication of Rwanda’s military leaders, whose legacy continues to inspire and guide the next generation of RDF soldiers.
