About 6000 people are participating in the 11th edition of the 11th TAURON Running Festival in Krynica-Zdrój in Poland.
For three days, about 6,000 people from Poland and abroad will run and march in the spa. The event is being held in a strict sanitary regime and adapted to the current regulations on counteracting the COVID-19 pandemic.
The organization of the event in the traditional September time was hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the province.
Zygmunt Berdychowski, the creator of the Running Festival in Krynica-Zdrój says, “The health of the participants and guests of the event in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic is our priority.”
According to Zygmunt the “red zone” in 20 poviats in 6 voivodeships, including nowosądecki poviat, brought the desired effect – the number of new infections has dropped to a low level, and new infections are now a local outbreak (weddings, celebrations etc.).
This, together with the wide-ranging security measures taken by the “Running Festival” Foundation, including the obligation to cover the face and mouth, disinfecting hands and surfaces, limiting the contact between runners to the necessary minimum by introducing special start and collection zones as well as separate non-contact areas in the competition office will allow the 11th TAURON Running Festival to be safely held.
Due to the limitations, we were forced to resign from several activities that had accompanied the event in Krynica for years (Forum Sport Zdrowie Money, Children’s Zone), but we are still planning a festival EXPO in which several dozen companies have declared their participation. On stage, we will see performances of artists as part of the Festival of Lachowski and highlander bands – informs the “Biegów Festival” Foundation.
TAURON Running Festival consists of 25 running and Nordic walking competitions, with routes over 300 km long. The 7 Valleys Run has the longest route, held as part of the Visegrad ultramarathon President Lech Kaczyński. The festival’s “hundred” – the 7 Valleys 100 km Run – remains the crowning distance. You can also choose shorter distances, played in successive sections of the route in the charming Beskid Sądecki. Almost 3,200 people have signed up for all mountain and ultra-competitions in Krynica.
The most difficult competition at the Krynica Festival is the Iron Run. During three days, participants will start 9 times. Running on the street and in the mountains, they will cover over 140 km.
A record number of 160 competitors, including 11 women, entered the competition. – Iron Run is a challenge for the strongest. In Krynica, the “weak sex” is sometimes the stronger sex, emphasizes Zygmunt Berdychowski, who has already finished this murderous competition twice.
ORLEN Życiowa 10 will be the biggest race again, with almost 1,300 participants already signed up. The distinguishing feature of the competition is the sloping route along its entire length (ground levelling 128 m). The competitors start on the second day of the event and run from the promenade in Krynica to the Zapopradzie Recreation and Sports Center in Muszyna.
The Koral Marathon and Half Marathon will gather over 700 people. Over 300 people will compete for the titles of national champions in mountain varieties of Nordic walking on the slopes of Jaworzyna Krynicka and Góra Parkowa.
