Paul Muvunyi’s Dossier Submitted To Prosecution, Still Detained

Businessman Paul Muvunyi was interrogated by prosecution on Monday after Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) summited his dossier.

The City Tycoon is accused by the Land Center of forging a signature to obtain a land title.

According to RIB, Muvunyi forged the signature of the owner of the land who is not around or alive and presented the forged agreement to the Land Center to request for the land title.

RIB claims that Muvunyi later got the land title which was later cancelled after realizing ‘the signature of the owner was not authentic.” According to RIB, “that is when land center requested for investigation into the matter and findings indicated that he was facilitated by the three accomplices.”

The co-accused include Rtd. Col Eugène Ruzibiza, Gérald Niyongamije, Executive Secretary of Gasura cell in Karongi district and Félicien Kayigema, a resident of Karongi district.

Rtd. Col Ruzibiza once headed the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) in Karongi district and Muvunyi is proprietor of Kivu Safari Lodge.

According to one of his lawyers, Me Christopher Niyomugabo, his client was interrogated by the Prosecution at the Nyamirambo-based Nyarugenge Intermediate Court.

While he remains in custody since Charismas Eve, Muvunyi was not told when to expect the decision of the prosecution whether he has a case to answer or not.

Once the decision is pronounced, if prosecution decides he has case, Me Niyomugabo said he, and his colleague Evode  Kayitana, will file for his release so that he can be heard while out of detention.
