Details emerging from neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) indicate that about 10 people have died after a boat they were travelling in capsised.
Local media reported on Wednesday that ten people including 3 men, 4 women and 3 children died after the HB whaleboat sunk on Tuesday August 15, about twenty meters from the port of Oshwe in the province of Mai-Ndombe in the DRC.
According to Simplice Mputu Bajuu, administrator of the Oshwe territory, this sinking occurred following the overloading and collapse of the roof of the whaleboat.
Among the victims identified include government officials who had been on the boat for a trip to the rural municipality of katu to conduct physical and biometric control.
He also said that the belongings of the missing victims were found locked in the whaleboat roof under the waters.
