Over 7000 Displaced By River Overflow in Mozambique

Mozambique government authorities have reported that more than 7000 people have been displaced from their homes after Sabi River overflow.

Local media reported that the affected people include residents in village of Nova Mambone,in the district of Govuro, in the province of Inhambane, and in the village of Machanga, in Sofala.

The latest information received last night showed that just over ten kilometers of National Road (N1), from the crossing of Inhassoro to Nova Mambone, in interspersed sections, are submerged.

The administrator of Govuro, Francisco Mozimbingua, confirmed the fact, stressing that families are being rescued to safe places.

He added that the Josina Machel, Mussanga, Djenga, Matasse and Matique neighborhoods (neighborhoods in the village of Nova Mambone) are submerged and more than four thousand inhabitants had to be evacuated to reception centres.
