National Exams Out: Over 80% Pass, Girl Tops

The Rwanda Education Board today released results for Primary Leaving Examinations and Ordinary Level.

In general, there were 254,834 Primary Candidates and 99,209 Ordinary level Candidates who sat for national examinations in 2018.

Out of the total who sat for Ordinary Level exams, 83.3% passed. Of those, 41 990 (51,90%) were girls and 38 976 (48.10%) were boys.

And 81.1% of Primary Level passed. Of these, 8, 271 (3.3%) scored a distinction and boys dominated at 54.8%. Girls covered 45.2% (3736).

Unfortunately 149 candidates in primary and 78 in ordinary level were disqualified for cheating.

The number of those disqualified has dropped from 354 in primary in 2017 and 83 in ordinary level 2017.

Gianna Blessing Ishimwe from Kigali Parents School is the best performer.

Her and other 20 best performers were awarded laptops.

However, performance in general has dropped.

In primary level, it moved from 86.3% to 81.1% in 2017 and in Ordinary Level from  89.9% to 83.3% in 2017.
