Jens Stoltenberg to Become Chairman of Munich Security Conference

The new chairman of the Munich Security Conference, is scheduled to be Jens Stoltenberg after he concludes his service as NATO Secretary-General.

Stoltenberg will assume this office after the Munich Conference in February 2025. Munich Security Conference (MSC) is the world’s leading forum for debate on international security.

Stoltenberg, will complete his term as NATO Secretary General by October 1.

The source clarified that Christoph Heusgen, who took over as chairman in 2022, will step down, while former longtime leader Wolfgang Ischinger will remain president of the Munich Security Conference Foundation Council.

Stoltenberg, a former Norwegian prime minister, has served as NATO Secretary-General since 2014.

His mandate expires on September 30. On October 1, Mark Rutte, former prime minister of the Netherlands, will replace Stoltenberg.

Over the past four decades the Munich Security Conference has become the most important independent forum for the exchange of views by international security policy decision-makers.

Each year it brings together about 350 senior figures from more than 70 countries around the world to engage in an intensive debate on current and future security challenges.

The list of attendees includes heads of states, governments and international organizations, ministers, members of parliament, high-ranking representatives of armed forces, science, civil society, as well as business and media.

The conference founded in 1963 is held annually in February. The conference is organized privately and therefore not an official government event.
