In the lead-up to World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (TiP), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting human trafficking in Rwanda.
Last week, the IOM team visited the Kacyiru Isange One Stop Center, a facility that provides critical support to victims of trafficking, to observe the impactful work being done by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB).
The visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IOM and RIB, solidifying their partnership to combat human trafficking.
This collaborative effort aims to enhance victim support, raise awareness, and strengthen measures to prevent trafficking in Rwanda.
The Secretary General of RIB, Col (Rtd) Jannot Ruhunga, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “Combatting human trafficking in our country is in line with ‘Agaciro k’Umunyarwanda.’
“Combatting Human Trafficking in our country is in ligne with “Agaciro k’umunyarwanda” Rwandans deserves to be treated with dignity therefore we deploy all the available means to protect Rwandans from being trafficked and treated as objects…” Ruhunga added.
The support provided by RIB to trafficking survivors at the Isange One Stop Center is nothing short of inspiring, IOM said, that with this MoU, the two partners are one step closer to ending human trafficking together.
The renewed partnership underscores the ongoing commitment of both organizations to protect vulnerable individuals and eradicate human trafficking, aligning with global efforts to End Human Trafficking.
