Goma’s Charité Maternelle Hospital Treating War Casualites For Free

Residents of Goma who were wounded by gun shots, grenades, stabbing during the war are receiving free medical care at Charité Maternelle General Referal Hospital.

Dr. Jules Kafitiye the Hospital Director told Taarifa, that the hospital has received aid from the UK government to treat war casualities for free for a period of one month.

“These are victims who were caught off guard by the war, and because of its consequences, they no longer have the means to access care,” said Dr. Kafitiye.

He added, “we agreed with our partners to help the injured and destitute people. It was in this context that we found support from the organization Uk Aid Made, which agreed to subsidize care for these war-wounded for a month,” said Dr. Kafitiye.

“We are hoping that after April, the security situation will be better controlled. Today, it is difficult to know how many injured people we will receive. These are unforeseen cases, particularly attacks at home. People injured by firearms or knives come to our facilities, and we treat them free of charge,” noted Dr. Kafitiye.

According to Dr. Kafitiye, at least ten people have already been treated for gunshot wounds, and the hospital continues to receive new cases.

“We do not want an injured person, whether shot or stabbed, to die at home for lack of care. We encourage all victims to come and seek treatment,”Dr Kafitiye explained.

However, Dr.Kafitiye cautioned that “After April, if we do not have another partner to continue, the situation could become more difficult.”
