It feels like the waiting has been taking forever but this year, most of those movies that have been cooking will finally land onto your screens. 2020 is basically the deal year.
Movie theatres across the world are gearing up for the next James Bond film, No Time to Die, with director Cary Fukunaga taking over for once-attached Danny Boyle, and Daniel Craig returning (for one last time?).
Also on the menu there are long-awaited follow-ups to Bad Boys and Coming to America, and Tom Cruise is back to race across the sky in Top Gun: Maverick.
Another interesting wait is for Wonder Woman returns in Wonder Woman 1984, and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow will kick off Marvel’s Phase Four.
For musical fans, they are in for a treat, with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights coming to the big screen, courtesy of Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu.
Best new films coming out in 2020
Executive produced by crime film kingpin Martin Scorsese, Uncut Gems is about a gambling addict/jeweller with loan shark debts that threaten to become literally crippling if he can’t get his hands on a certain diamond-encrusted Furby.
Director duo the Safdie brothers made their name in 2017 with the grimly hypnotic Good Time. Now they’re back with another bullet-sweating tale of a charismatic criminal who quickly winds up in over his head.
Good Time saw a post-Twilight Robert Pattinson breaking bad while Uncut Gems takes slapstick megastar Adam Sandler, coats him in a layer of sleaze and sends him scrambling through New York’s underworld.
