Ex-President Compaoré Evacuated To Qatar Very Sick

Blaise Compaoré, 71, the former President of Burkina Faso has been airlifted to Doha, Qatar to recieve urgent medical attention, according to family sources.

The former president, ill and weakened, had to leave Abidjan this weekend for a new medical check-up in Qatar, where he has been regularly monitored since the brain operation he had there in 2021.

He will be accompanied by his wife, Chantal Compaoré.

Mr. Blaise Compaoré has been battling a troublesome court procedure for the 1987 assassination of revolutionary icon Thomas Sankara.

However, paraded before the press in July by the Burkina Faso’s junta leader, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, former President Compaoré apologised to the ex-leader’s family.

“I ask the Burkinabe people for forgiveness for all the acts I may have committed during my tenure, and especially the family of my brother and friend Thomas Sankara,” he said in a message read out by government spokesman Lionel Bilgo.

“I take responsibility for, and regret from the bottom of my heart, all the suffering and tragedies experienced by all victims during my terms as leader of the country, and ask their families to grant me their forgiveness,” Compaoré said.
