Muslim faithfuls across Rwanda have joined their counterparts across the globe to celebrate Eid al-Adha a major festivals in Islam.
Rwandan schools, public offices, banks and various government parastatals have closed today- It is a public holiday observed annually just like Eid al-Fitr another festival in Islam.
Eid al-Adha celebrations include prayers, animal sacrifice(qurbani), charity, social gatherings, festive meals, gift-giving.
On this day of Eid al-Adha Muslims remember the sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim.
In remembrance of his sacrifice and to help the poor and needy, Muslims beleive they have given their our own sacrifice.
According to Islamic Relief organisation, Eid-al Adha is celebrated over 3 days. For example, Eid-al Adha began today on 6th June 2025 (depending on the sighting of the moon), it will end on 9th June 2025.
