Commandants from the Armed Forces’ Senior Command and Staff Colleges of East African Community (EAC) Partner States have gathered in Kigali today for their biannual meeting.
The conference, which brings together military leaders from across the region, aims to evaluate and enhance the current status of cooperation in military training and assess the progress of decisions made by the sectoral council on defence cooperation.
The meeting’s agenda included a series of presentations and discussions focused on the conduct of academic programmes at the colleges. Participants shared insights and experiences to further harmonize their teaching curriculums and facilitate the exchange of students between the institutions. This collaborative approach seeks to strengthen military training across the EAC, ensuring consistency and excellence in education.
The curriculum harmonisation effort aligns with the broader goals of EAC defence cooperation, as outlined under Article 2 of the EAC Protocol on Cooperation in Defence Affairs. This protocol provides a framework for member states to work together in enhancing their defence capabilities and fostering greater integration within the region.
The discussions reflect a commitment to building a unified approach to military training, which is crucial for the region’s collective security and operational effectiveness.
By sharing best practices and aligning educational standards, the EAC aims to develop a more coordinated and proficient defence force capable of addressing regional security challenges.
