At about 3:21Pm in the middle of the ongoing Tour de France, Anthony Perez crashed out of the Tour de France after breaking his collarbone. He is now out of the race.
Race organisers said Perez crashed on the descent off the col de Lèques and broke a collarbone.
This is stage three at the 107th edition of the Tour de France.
“Anthony Perez punctured, got a spare wheel and was chasing back when he collided with car. He was going to collect the polka dot jersey this evening, now he’ll likely have his arm in a sling, suspected broken collarbone,” said the organisers.
Earlier in the morning as Stage Three rolled off, commentators were considering Perez a potential leader in the mountains. This accident however, has crashed his chances. “The polka-dot jersey is safe on the shoulders of Benoît Cosnefroy (Ag2r-La Mondiale) for another day.”
“Despite Benoît Cosnefroy (Ag2r-La Mondiale) and Anthony Perez (Cofidis Solutions Crédits) being on the same points in the mountains classification, it is the former that will wear the maillot à pois, or polka-dot jersey today after he finished highest in the standings on Sunday’s stage,” said a commentator early Monday.
Reports on ground indicate that the cyclists are just minutes away from concluding today’s tiresome and competitive race.
Jérôme Cousin is hanging out in front, but it’s only a matter of time before the Total Direct Énergie rider is scooped up by the peloton. His lead has been whittled down to 18sec.
