Agriculture Sector Projected To Grow By 10% In 6 years.

Rwanda’s Agriculture sector is expected to grow at a rate of 10% in the next six years, Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente said during a high level Agriculture Transformation meeting.

The Prime Minister was officiating at the fourth Strategic Plan for the Transformation of Agriculture (PSTA4) – a high-level meeting attended by key actors from agriculture sector, development partners and representatives of the private sector.

The launch ceremony took place in Kigali.

This 4th Strategic Plan for the Transformation of Agriculture seeks to change the Agriculture sector to a high value sector to improve the national economy and food security.

Addressing the audience, Ngirente said that Rwanda’s National Strategy for Transformation aims at modernising and increasing production of agriculture and livestock.

Prime Minister Ngirente has promised government’s commitment to sustain the momentum of Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) and achieve the CAADP Malabo Declaration.

He said that Rwanda will continue to invest in agricultural research, and in the creation of an enabling environment and responsive institutions.

PSTA4 is expected to be implemented from 2018 to 2024.

Ngirente highlighted the expectations of PSTA4 which are mainly focused on the growth of agriculture sector at average of 10% per year between 2017 and 2024, as well as the creation of 214,000 jobs in the same period.
