The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has praised Rwanda’s prompt and proactive response to the ongoing Mpox and Marburg virus outbreaks. In a meeting with Rwanda’s Minister of Health, Sabin Nsanzimana, Africa CDC Director Jean Kaseya lauded the country’s swift measures to address the health crises.
“Impressed by Rwanda’s swift, proactive response. Africa CDC stands firmly with Rwanda, committed to safeguarding lives and stopping the spread,” Kaseya shared on social media following the discussions.
He also visited the Marburg response command post, as well as the treatment center and call center.
Rwanda has been facing the dual challenge of managing Mpox and Marburg, two severe viral infections that pose significant public health threats.
The Ministry of Health has acted decisively, enhancing testing, isolation, and treatment protocols. Vaccination of frontline healthcare workers against Marburg began on October 7, 2024.
Africa CDC has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Rwanda’s efforts, working closely with local health authorities to ensure effective containment of both outbreaks.
This partnership underscores the importance of continental collaboration in tackling health emergencies across Africa.
As the number of confirmed cases continues to rise, Rwanda’s health authorities remain vigilant, focusing on public awareness and strict preventive measures to curb the spread of the infections.
