A Journey Across The Black Atlantic To Rwanda

One of UK’s pioneering DJ, Producer, MC and Broadcite Music label owner, T-Roy, is currently  in Johannesburg, South Africa for a series of activities, including; workshop /masterclass and performances.

He is expected to reach Kigali on the 8th of September for a similar program.

The project is dubbed Journey Across The Black Atlantic, aimed at creating connections with the local music scenes and relevant industry players including DJs, producers, musicians, promoters, event managers and music journalists.

Ghana born and UK based T-Roy is responsible for the production of projects and selection of music that is released on the boutique Broadcite music label catalogue.

Doubling up as a tastemaker DJ producing a selection of hot upfront mixes for various FM & online radio platforms.

When he is not playing sets or producing fresh beats, T-Roy continues to be the host/MC of choice for many UK/global music festivals and events.

Above everything, T-Roy has always been ahead of the curve, he is one of London’s underground music pioneer and advocates of experimental fusion of African music and the deep Afro house sound.

#AcrossTheBlackAtlantic, as a project challenges the idea of the historical slave trade route and flips it as the music travels back into the continent to become a reimagined sound, a new culture called AFROGROOV.

Driven by the belief that all music is African music, DJ and producers are thus the new historians and storytellers that blend the past and present to take us on an audio journey that not only reclaims but also highlights African heritage and influence on the world of music.

The first leg of the cultural tour took place in Johannesburg South Africa from 2 – 7 September 2019 and the second leg is currently underway in Kigali Rwanda from 8 – 12 September 2019.

Eric Soul reminisce: “A Journey Across the Black Atlantic is the culmination of efforts by a dedicated collective of like-minded creatives and kindred spirits from Rwanda, SA, London and is a manifestation of the power of ideas being pushed forwards. I met T.Roy from Broadcite in London in 2007- already a hard working DJ/Producer and label owner who was tearing up the underground scene through parties showcasing new experimental soulful black music produced by a crew of some of the best producers and remixers of the scene. Our few collaborations around London’s clubscene set the tone for the progresssive influence of Afro sounds in clubland before it was trendy to do so. Am extremely delighted to finally being reunited with T.Roy whose energy, talent and dedication has always been an inspiration to me”
