AFC/M23 rebels are expected to return to a negotiating table with the Kinshasa authorities, Taarifa investigative Desk has established.
According to emerging reports, Switzerland will host the two sides that have been at war for the past three years. The rebels currently control large territory covering both North Kivu province and South Kivu province.
This is not the first time the rebels and Kinshasa authorities are holding talks. They have met before in Nairobi Kenya, Angola, Qatar, and back to Angola again,
It should be considered that in November last year, the Swiss Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis got involved in shuttle diplomacy between Kigali and Kinshasa.
Peace efforts to resolve the crisis in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) formed the focal point of his visit to Kinshasa on Friday 21 November. On Thursday 20 November, Mr Cassis inaugurated the new Swiss embassy in Rwanda.
He also attended the 46th Francophonie Ministerial Conference in Kigali.
Switzerland was the only bilateral actor to have maintained its presence in the east of the DRC with its cooperation office in Bukavu.
Switzerland’s activities in the region are based on the Africa Strategy 2025–28, which focuses on managing armed conflicts and protecting particularly vulnerable population groups in Central and East Africa.
