The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed receipt of an appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) challenging a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.
According to a statement released by CAS, the appeal contests a CAF ruling issued on March 17, 2026, which declared that Senegal had forfeited the final and awarded victory to Morocco with a 3-0 scoreline.
The FSF is seeking to have the decision annulled and is requesting to be declared the rightful winner of the tournament. It has also asked for the immediate suspension of the deadline to submit its full appeal brief until the detailed grounds of CAF’s decision are formally communicated.
CAS stated that an arbitration panel will be appointed to hear the case, after which a procedural timetable will be established. Under standard CAS procedures, the appellant is given 20 days to submit detailed arguments, followed by a similar period for the respondents—in this case CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation—to file their responses.
However, CAS noted that, due to the FSF’s request to suspend deadlines, it is not yet possible to determine the timeline for proceedings or when a hearing might take place.
CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb said the tribunal is equipped to handle such disputes efficiently, emphasizing that the process will aim to deliver a timely decision while ensuring fairness to all parties involved.
The case adds a new layer of uncertainty to the outcome of AFCON 2025, with the final verdict now pending arbitration. Proceedings remain confidential, and further updates will be provided once a hearing is scheduled.
