New Plants to Deliver Up to 48,000 Cubic Meters of Water Daily

Rwanda’s Minister of Infrastructure, Dr. Jimmy Gasore, has announced major progress in the construction and expansion of water treatment plants, highlighting a significant boost in the country’s daily water production capacity.

Speaking on the developments, the Minister emphasized that ongoing projects umder pipeline across different regions are nearing completion and will ensure more reliable access to clean water for citizens.

 

“We are making strong progress in expanding water treatment infrastructure. These projects will significantly increase the volume of clean water produced daily and improve service delivery,” said Dr. Gasore.

According to the Minister, the expansion of the Mutobo Water Treatment Plant in Musanze has reached 84%, while the Muhazi II plant in Rwamagana and the Musogoro plant in Karongi have each reached 92% completion.

He further noted that the Karenge Water Treatment Plant is being upgraded to handle up to 48,000 cubic meters of water per day, with construction currently at 30%.

Meanwhile, rehabilitation works at the Nzove plant are ongoing and expected to be completed within the year.

“These investments are essential to meeting the growing demand for water driven by urbanization and population growth,” he added.

Once completed, the projects are expected to significantly strengthen Rwanda’s water supply system and improve access to clean water for thousands of households nationwide.
