The Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA) has announced plans to construct four new paved (asphalt) roads in Bugesera District, with a total length of 69.4 kilometers.
The project is expected to begin in the near future and is aimed at improving access to the Kigali International Airport currently under construction in Bugesera.
According to RTDA, these modern road links will play a key role in facilitating smooth and efficient transportation to and from the new international airport, which is set to become a major gateway for Rwanda and the wider region.
The roads will connect strategic areas within Bugesera, ensuring reliable and faster movement for passengers, airport staff, goods, and services.
Beyond supporting airport operations, the project is expected to bring significant benefits to residents of Nyamata and surrounding areas. Improved road infrastructure will reduce travel time, lower transport costs, and enhance road safety for local communities.
Residents will gain better access to markets, schools, health facilities, and other essential services, contributing to an improved quality of life.
The new paved roads are also expected to stimulate economic growth in Nyamata by attracting new investments, boosting local businesses, and creating employment opportunities during both the construction and operational phases.
With improved connectivity, farmers and traders will be able to transport their products more efficiently, opening up broader market opportunities.
RTDA emphasized that the project aligns with the government’s broader vision of developing modern infrastructure to support national development and transform Bugesera into a key economic and transport hub.
For Nyamata residents, the roads represent not only improved mobility but also a pathway to increased economic opportunities and sustainable development.
Once completed, the four asphalt roads will mark a major milestone in Bugesera’s transformation and reinforce the district’s strategic importance in Rwanda’s transport and aviation network.
