By 2029, Rwanda targets to have planted a total of 9million coffee seedlings according the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB).
The NAEB board said on Tuesday, “With a total of 9 million coffee seedlings expected to be planted on 3,050 hectares by 2029, the initiative is set to significantly increase coffee production and export volumes, transform farmers’ livelihoods, and boost the national economy.”
NAEB said that during the 2026 Season A alone, it supported coffee farmers across six districts to plant 2.75 million coffee seedlings on 1,102 hectares.
The target districts include; Nyamasheke, Rusizi,Karongi, Huye,Ruhango, and Nyamagabe.
According to NAEB this ambitious approach seeks to elevate Rwanda’s coffee sector, “growing today to sustain tomorrow, with a future-focused approach centered on quality, resilience and inclusive growth.”
Meanwhile, last year Rwanda’s coffee sector experienced a record-breaking year, with export revenues exceeding $148.6 million (nearly $150M) due to increased volumes (+39%) and higher global prices, reaching $6.2/kg, driven by investments, better farmer support (earning ~Rwf900/kg), and expanding specialty markets.
This performance positions the country strongly to meet its 2029 targets for 32,000 tonnes and $192M, supported by improved farming practices, climate resilience efforts, and strong promotion at events like World of Coffee Dubai.
