The Primary Court of Nyarugenge on Wednesday heard a closely watched case involving Shema Arnaud, popularly known as DJ Toxxyk, who appeared before the court to answer charges related to a fatal road accident.
During the hearing, DJ Toxxyk admitted to two serious offenses: fleeing the scene after causing an accident and manslaughter (involuntary homicide).
However, he firmly denied additional accusations leveled against him, including the use of illegal drugs and refusing to undergo a breathalyzer test to measure alcohol levels in his body.
The prosecution argued that the gravity of the case and the need for further investigations justified pretrial detention.
As a result, prosecutors requested that DJ Toxxyk be remanded in custody for 30 days to allow authorities sufficient time to complete their inquiries and gather additional evidence.
The court did not issue an immediate ruling on the request. Instead, it scheduled a date to deliver its decision on whether DJ Toxxyk will be granted provisional release or placed in pretrial detention.
The ruling is expected on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
Until then, the case continues to draw public attention, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety, accountability, and the legal responsibilities of public figures when involved in fatal incidents.
