The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has announced the extension of promotional rates for gorilla trekking permits throughout 2026, as part of efforts to boost domestic and regional tourism.
In a public notice, RDB said the discounted rates will remain in effect until 31 December 2026, with the exception of the peak tourism period from June to October 2026, during which the promotion will not apply.
Under the revised rates, Rwandan citizens and East African Community nationals will pay $200 for a gorilla trekking permit in Volcanoes National Park. Eligible visitors in this category are required to present a national ID, a valid passport, or a birth certificate.
Africans and African residents will benefit from a promotional rate of $500. To qualify, applicants must hold a valid passport and either a resident ID, diplomatic card, or a valid visa demonstrating at least four consecutive months of legal residence.
RDB said the move is intended to reinforce Rwanda’s position as a leading destination for domestic, regional, and continental travelers, while making the iconic gorilla trekking experience more accessible to Africans.
“RDB reaffirms its commitment to driving tourism growth and positioning Rwanda as a premier regional and global destination,” the notice reads.
Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park remains one of Rwanda’s flagship tourism products, attracting visitors from around the world and contributing significantly to conservation efforts and local community development.
