The AFC/M23 fighters are aggressively advancing to Fizi epicenter after successfully seizing Makobola town on Sunday.
Makobola a strategic locality along Uvira–Baraka axis fell to rebels after heavy fighting against government troops and it’s Burundian allies and Wazalendo militia.
The later withdrew to further south along lake Tanganyika shores and this puts to threat Baraka and Fizi localities.
Meanwhile, field reports indicate that around 100 AFC/M23 fighters were killed in an ambush set by the FARDC and the Wazalendo along the Makobola-Baraka axis.
“Three M23 jeeps were set on fire. The latter were attempting a breakthrough toward the town of Baraka before being stopped,”according to a source privy with the operations.
