Heavy guns are blasting off 7km outside Uvira city as Wazalendo militia launch Counterattacks against the AFC/M23 rebels in an attempt to retake the strategic city.
“Violent clashes have broken out in Lwanga, between Uvira and Makobola.
Heavy weapons detonations can be heard as far as Makobola, located just 7km south of Uvira,” a source said.

After the fall of Uvira city, several allied troops escaped to Mboko located in Fizi territory.
The AFC/M23 fighters have launched attacks with the aim of seizing Mboko.
Several civilians escaped to Mboko, fleeing from various parts of the province during the fall of the city of Uvira.
Some Congolese have left this place, heading toward Burundi via Lake Tanganyika.
A boat reportedly capsized, causing several disappearances among civilians, including women and children.
According to warfare analysts, the AFC/M23 fighters are hatching a grand move to push back Congolese troops and their allies along Lake Tanganyika, a natural border between DRC, Burundi, and Tanzania.
This daring operation would secure territories of Uvira and Fizi, with a possible extension toward Tanganyika Province.
Reliable intelligence sources have been quoted as saying the highly trained and equipped AFC/M23 rebels have already delivered marine speed vessels to facilitate the manoeuvre.
This operation, almost 150Km Southwest of Uvira, would trigger an opening of two fronts, to advance toward Tanganyika Province and toward Kindu, passing through the highlands.
Commanders plan to encircle or counter the military personnel who are on the western front, particularly toward Mwenga Center, Kamituga, and other entities in the area, forcing them into a new withdrawal.
