President Paul Kagame has called on Rwandan leaders to embrace responsibility, purpose, and vision as they navigate the country’s future.
Speaking at the 18th Unity Club Forum, Kagame emphasized that external help alone cannot solve Rwanda’s challenges.
“As leaders gathered here, if there is someone who thinks that anyone from the outside will come to save us, you are mistaken. As the saying goes, it is not the size of the dog in the fight, it is the size of the fight in the dog,” President Kagame said, challenging officials to reflect on the determination and commitment they bring to their roles.
He urged leaders to consider their purpose carefully, grounded in the principles of “Ndi Umunyarwanda,” a philosophy that underscores national identity and civic responsibility.
“Where Rwanda has come from, and where it is today, it is because of all of you here and the Rwandans you lead,” he said, recognizing the contributions of officials and citizens alike.
President Kagame warned against complacency, stressing that progress should not be taken for granted.
“Make sure you are not just carried along by others but that you are truly part of it, playing your role and making your contribution. That is essential and there is no way around it,” he noted.
The President also called for politics to be guided by purpose, vision, and commitment, values that should shape the way leaders see and interact with one another.
The 18th Unity Club Forum brought together leaders from across Rwanda to discuss strategies for sustaining progress and reinforcing national unity, with Kagame highlighting the importance of collective responsibility and principled leadership.
