Prof. Didas Kayihura Muganga, Vice Chancellor of the University of Rwanda (UR), met with President Moon Si-yeun of Sookmyung Women’s University in South Korea to forge a new academic partnership.
The meeting, announced via UR’s social media, aims to boost collaboration in research, academic excellence, and cultural exchange between the two institutions.
The University of Rwanda, with over 30,000 students across nine campuses, is a key driver of the nation’s development.
Prof. Muganga, a legal scholar with a Ph.D. in international business law, has led UR since July 2022, emphasizing innovation and regional integration.
Sookmyung, founded in 1906 as South Korea’s first private women’s university, is led by President Moon, a French literature scholar who took office in September 2024, focusing on global women’s leadership and Korean cultural programs.
The partnership will explore joint research in areas like sustainable development and gender studies, alongside student and faculty exchanges.
Cultural initiatives, such as Korean language courses at UR and Rwandan history workshops at Sookmyung, aim to strengthen ties. “This engagement opens doors to empowering students and building bridges between our nations,” UR’s statement read.
The collaboration aligns with Rwanda’s Vision 2050 for a knowledge-based economy and South Korea’s growing educational investments in Africa.
This meeting marks a step toward deeper Rwanda-Korea cooperation, promising mutual growth in academia and beyond.
