Shanghai Cooperation Organization Diplomats Discuss Wars in Gaza, Ukraine, Iran

Top diplomats of Shanghai Cooperation Organization met in Beijing, China on Tuesday and tackled pressing global issues including multilateralism, mutual respect, and regional stability.

SCO member states comprise of China, Belarus, India, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Abbas Araghchi Iran’s Foreign Minister noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a vital regional body, “The SCO is a highly significant regional organization, and we hold it in great esteem.”

“We are pleased that the SCO has stood by Iran regarding the recent Israeli attacks,” Araghchi shortly before the (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Beijing.

Iran’s top diplomat also stressed that the SCO must speak with one voice as the recognized representative of the Global South, defending the UN Charter’s core principles, particularly sovereign equality and the prohibition on the use of force.

The two-day summit (July15-16) which concludes today SCO ministers are laying groundwork for upcoming summit in China’s northern Tianjin city between Aug 31 to Sept. 1.

As the world experiences growing influence of multilateralism, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is gaining tract as representative of the Global South,.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged group members at the forthcoming summit to talk about the future growth of the SCO and view the bloc as “mutual benefit” and “trust” as the cornerstones of “cooperation, equality and consultation”
