UNMISS Commander Bids Farewell to Rwanda Peacekeepers

United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Sector North Commander Brigadier General Syed Wajahat Hussain Naqvi has bid farewell to Rwandan peacekeepers serving under RWANBATT-2 at their headquarters in Malakal Base Camp, Upper Nile State.

Brig Gen Naqvi made the farewell visit on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as he concluded his tour of duty as Sector North Commander.

During his remarks, the UNMISS commander commended RWANBATT-2 for its contribution to the implementation of the UN peacekeeping mission’s mandate, particularly in supporting efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in South Sudan.

> “I commend RWANBATT-2 for its valuable contribution to the implementation of the UNMISS mandate. I am confident that the contingent will continue to build on its achievements and effectively carry out its assigned responsibilities,” Brig Gen Naqvi said.

 

The visit also provided an opportunity to recognize the strong working relationship developed between the Sector North Headquarters and RWANBATT-2 during his tenure.

Rwandan peacekeepers serving under UNMISS have continued to support the mission’s efforts to protect civilians, strengthen stability and create conditions conducive to peace in South Sudan.

The farewell visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of UNMISS Sector North and RWANBATT-2 to fulfilling the mission’s mandate and contributing to lasting peace and stability in the country.
