RPF Inkotanyi Secretary General Christophe Bazivamo and Deputy Secretary General Stephen Gasana received a delegation from the Communist Party of China on Monday, September 21, for talks on strengthening cooperation between the two parties.
The delegation was led by Wang Liyong, director general of the China Center for Contemporary World Studies, which is affiliated with the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. China’s ambassador to Rwanda, Gao Wenqi, also attended.
According to RPF Inkotanyi, the discussions covered culture, education, research and exchanges between people in the two countries. No agreement or specific new programme was announced after the meeting.
The talks build on an established relationship between the parties. In January, Bazivamo and Ambassador Gao discussed expanding party exchanges and cooperation. Earlier contacts have included exchanges on governance and training.
The party relationship forms part of broader ties between Rwanda and China, which established diplomatic relations in 1971. Presidents Paul Kagame and Xi Jinping elevated those ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership during their meeting in Beijing in September 2024.
Monday’s discussion focused on how the parties could deepen contacts within that wider relationship.
