President Paul Kagame on Tuesday afternoon received the outgoing European Union Ambassador to Rwanda, Belén Calvo Uyarra, at Urugwiro Village for a farewell meeting marking the end of her diplomatic mission in the country.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the longstanding partnership between Rwanda and the European Union, with both sides reflecting on progress made in strengthening cooperation across several strategic sectors.

Among the key areas discussed were vaccine manufacturing, peace support efforts, infrastructure development, investment, education, environmental sustainability, and the partnership on critical raw minerals, which has become an increasingly important pillar of Rwanda-EU relations as the country seeks to add value to its mineral resources and attract responsible investment.

Rwanda and the European Union have maintained a broad partnership spanning development cooperation, trade, governance, climate action, and regional peace and security. In recent years, the relationship has expanded to include support for local pharmaceutical manufacturing, reflecting Rwanda’s ambition to become a regional hub for health innovation and medical production.

The farewell meeting also underscored the continued commitment of both Rwanda and the European Union to deepen collaboration on shared priorities and build on the progress achieved during Ambassador Calvo Uyarra’s tenure.

Belén Calvo Uyarra concludes her tour of duty after serving as the European Union’s ambassador to Rwanda, during which she oversaw cooperation initiatives aimed at supporting the country’s economic development, resilience, and regional engagement.
