US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the Straight of Hormuz will be reopened to ship traffic on June 19.
The US leader said Washington and Tehran had signed a package of deals paving way to ending a three months war.
Trump told reporters at a joint news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) summit in France’s Evian-les-Bains that he is “very happy to say” that “the deal is all signed and the Strait [of Hormuz] is already partially opened.”
“Ships are starting to go out,” he added. “On Friday, it will be completely opened.”
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres commended the deal saying, “this represents a critical step towards the peaceful settlement of the conflict.”
“The Secretary-General reaffirms that the United Nations stands ready to support the parties in achieving a durable and comprehensive peace,” the spokesperson said.
