FIBA Africa President Anibal Manave has praised Rwanda for its exceptional role in hosting the Basketball Africa League over the past six years, describing the country as a true home for African basketball.

Speaking during the latest BAL activities in Kigali at a press conference, Manave commended Rwanda’s professionalism, organization, and commitment to growing the sport across the continent.

“We are delighted to return to Kigali. Over the last six years, Rwanda has become a wonderful home for BAL,” said Manave.

“We appreciate the professionalism and excellent leadership demonstrated in organizing and hosting this competition. It shows that together we are building something bigger than just a tournament.”

The remarks come as Kigali once again welcomes basketball fans, players, entertainers, and international guests for another edition of the rapidly growing continental league, which continues to position Africa as an emerging force in global basketball.

Rwanda’s Growing Reputation in African Sports

Since becoming one of BAL’s major host cities, Kigali has earned recognition for its world-class sporting infrastructure, hospitality, and ability to organize international events.

The modern BK Arena has become synonymous with some of the most memorable moments in African basketball.

Officials say the partnership between BAL, FIBA Africa, and Rwanda is helping to inspire a new generation of athletes while also boosting tourism, entertainment, and business opportunities in the region.

Claire Kamanzi, President of Basket of Africa, also praised the impact Rwanda has had on the competition and African basketball development.

“Rwanda has shown the continent what is possible when sport is supported with vision and strong leadership,” said Claire Kamanzi. “BAL is no longer just a basketball competition; it has become a platform that connects African talent, culture, business, and youth empowerment.”

She added that the continued success of the tournament demonstrates Africa’s growing capacity to host events that meet international standards.

Music and Entertainment to Light Up BAL Atmosphere

Beyond the action on the court, this year’s BAL festivities are expected to deliver a vibrant entertainment experience for fans attending the games in Kigali.

Kenyan music star Bien of Sauti Sol is among the headline performers scheduled to entertain revellers during the event.

They will be joined by rising Rwandan singer Ariel Wayz and Ugandan artist Baraka, who are expected to bring energy and excitement to the BAL fan experience.

Organizers say the blend of sports and entertainment continues to make BAL one of the most unique sporting events on the continent, attracting not only basketball lovers but also music and culture enthusiasts from across Africa.

As the tournament unfolds in Kigali, fans and officials alike believe BAL is steadily evolving into more than a league becoming a celebration of African excellence, unity, and talent.
