Rwanda and Tanzania yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the energy sector, further strengthening bilateral ties and reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing regional energy development.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa (NEISA 2026) at the Kigali Convention Centre in the presence of President Paul Kagame and President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, who is in Kigali for the continental summit on energy innovation and nuclear technology.
The MoU is expected to enhance collaboration between the two countries in key areas of the energy sector, including knowledge sharing, capacity building, infrastructure development, and the promotion of sustainable and innovative energy solutions.
The agreement reflects ongoing efforts by both Rwanda and Tanzania to expand access to reliable energy and support broader economic transformation goals.
The signing also highlights growing regional cooperation in addressing Africa’s increasing energy demands through strategic partnerships and investment in modern energy systems.
NEISA 2026 has brought together African leaders, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to discuss the future of energy innovation on the continent and the role of nuclear technology in supporting sustainable development.
