A new deadly Ebola virus outbreak has reportedly killed over 65 Congolese while 246 are infected in areas of Mongwalu and Rwampara.
The report is corroborated by Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Africa).
CDC Africa said on Friday it was convening a meeting with DR Congo, Uganda, South Sudan and other international partners to discuss response efforts and cross-border surveillance.
According to tests conducted by the Kinshasa based Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale (INRB), 20 samples were submitted. Scientists found that 13 of these samples tested positive with the virus.
Meanwhile, DRC government says it has detected more suspected cases in Bunia, Ituri’s provincial capital, Bunia. However, these suspected cases await laboratory confirmation.
This outbreak is the 16th witnessed in the DRC. Last year Ebola outbreak killed 15 Congolese.
Identifying Ebola
According to scientists, Ebola early symptoms include fever, muscle pain, fatigue, headache and sore throat.
Scientists also warn there is no cure for Ebola. It is passed to humans from bats.
In the past half century, Ebola has killed more than 50,000 people in different African countries.
