Rwanda is exploring new commercial partnerships with Algeria following discussions between its ambassador to Algeria, Vincent Karega, and the management of Sonaric, a state-owned manufacturer of household appliances.
“It was a pleasure to exchange this morning with the Management of Sonaric, the state-owned factory for household appliances in Algeria, to explore commercial opportunities with Rwanda,” Karega said after the meeting, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
Sonaric operates within Algeria’s public industrial sector and produces a range of household appliances, including refrigerators, cookers, washing machines and air conditioning units.
The company plays a role in Algeria’s strategy to boost domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports, and has benefited from state-backed industrial support aimed at revitalizing local production.
Karega indicated that the discussions are expected to progress with a planned visit to Rwanda. “A field visit to Kigali is being prepared for further market analysis,” he said.
The visit is expected to focus on assessing Rwanda’s market potential, including demand, distribution channels and possible partnerships with local businesses.
Rwanda has in recent years expanded its economic diplomacy across the continent, seeking industrial partnerships that support trade diversification and local market development.
Engagement with manufacturers such as Sonaric reflects efforts to deepen cooperation with African producers and strengthen intra-African trade.
The outcome of the planned visit is expected to determine whether the talks will lead to formal agreements or investment initiatives between Sonaric and Rwandan stakeholders.
