Burundi government has remained tight lipped over controversially powerful explosions and detonations that rocked a munitions depot in the capital city.
According to unverified reports, Burundi government attributed the explosions to a short circuit.
The explosions which occured on Tuesday have reportedly destroyed homes and at least one person died but no official tally of the damage has yet been released.
However, other sources told foreign media that over 13 people have died and 57 injured in multiple explosions. Hundreds have fled their homes in panic.
One woman told BBC that a relative, who had been detained at Mpimba Central Prison, had died after a bomb hit the facility.

Numerous inmates at the prison, which is located near the ammunitions store, are reported to have been injured.
“There was about six hours of projectiles flying overhead and landing randomly,” the resident told, declining to be identified. “We just had to shelter where we were.”
