President Kagame Congratulates Sassou Ngueso Upon Re-election

Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has extended congratulations to his counterpart of the Republic of Congo upon his re-election.

Denis Sassou Nguesso fetched 94.82% of the vote effectively securing a fifth term in office. The former military paratrooper has been in power since 1979.

Sassou’s closest challenger, Mabio Mavoungou Zinga, 69, a retired customs inspector and former member of parliament, won 1.48% of the vote.

The Sunday’s election turnout, which was predicted to drop to a record low, was “84.65 percent according to the Interior Minister Raymond Zephyrin Mboulou.

Congo Republic a Central African oil producer has witnessed an uninterrupted 42year rule by President Denis Sassou Ngueso currently ages 82.

Ngueso competed with six little‑known challengers. The ruling Congolese Labour Party retains more influence in the management of the country.

According to the Congo electoral law, the defeated candidates have five days ‌to ⁠file a challenge, and the Constitutional Court has 15 days to examine them before publishing final results.

Oil and gas provide most of the state revenue, driving growth that was estimated at 2.9 percent for 2025.

Ngueso campaigned on the defence of his economic record, having pushed to modernise the country’s infrastructure and develop the gas and agriculture sectors in a bid to make the country self-sufficient.
