A brief security incident involving members of Rwandan and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) delegations occurred at a Washington, D.C. hotel, according to an official statement released by Rwandan authorities.

The incident took place in a hotel hallway accessible to guests, where an unarmed member of the Rwandan VIP security team encountered DRC security personnel. Both delegations were staying at the same hotel at the time.

Rwandan officials said the staff member was temporarily prevented from accessing an elevator by DRC security agents, describing the action as inappropriate given the shared nature of the space. The situation was resolved without escalation.

Following the encounter, the Rwandan delegation decided to relocate to another hotel. During their departure, officials reported that members of the group were harassed and filmed by unidentified individuals. No physical altercations were reported.

The statement also criticized remarks made by the DRC’s Minister of Information during a press conference, alleging that the account presented publicly mischaracterized the incident.

There has been no independent confirmation of the competing claims from DRC officials. No injuries were reported, and the matter did not result in police involvement.

The incident comes amid ongoing regional tensions between Rwanda and the DRC, though it remains unclear whether the episode was connected to broader diplomatic dynamics.
