Namibia’s Communications Regulatory Authority has denied Starlink permission to operate in the southern Africa nation.

Starlink, a US based satellite internet provider has been denied both a telecommunications service license and access to radio spectrum.

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia “resolved to decline” both applications, effectively blocking the US-based firm’s planned rollout of nationwide satellite internet services.

The Namibian regulator published its decision in a government notice Monday.

However, according to the Namibian laws, Starlink can seek reconsideration of the decision within 90 days under the Communications Act.

Meanwhile, in neighbouring South Africa, a parliamentary committee that oversees South Africa’s telecommunications industry called for the withdrawal of a policy directive that would enable Elon Musk’s SpaceX and other satellite-internet companies to operate in the country without ceding ownership.
